Adams County Ag Literacy 2016-2017 Year End Summary

Adams County Ag Literacy Summary July 1, 2016- June 30, 2017 

  • 9,065 students reached through presentations  
  • 307 classroom presentations 
  • Topics include: Apples, Pumpkins, Livestock, Plants, Insects, Pizza, Whole Grains, Water Cycle, Corn, Soybeans, Gardens, Wind Turbines, Food Systems, and Soils. 
  • Presentations meet Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. 
  • All programs use developmentally appropriate practices. 
  • 63 classrooms received 4 visits & 3 classrooms received 3 visits  
  • 1,420 people were reached through other programs which included: Adams County Fair, Quincy Public Library Summer Reading Kick Off, Earth Day at John Wood Community College, Quincy Parks District with special needs students, St. Francis Catholic Education Week, St. Dominic’s After School Program, the Annual Farm Bureau Picnic, 4-H Electricity School, an Open House for teachers, and workshops, that I coordinated, for teachers to take. Helped the YMCA with their after school program and garden program. 
  • Hosted students from JWCC's Ag Career classes. Each student helped for two hours each. 
  • Quincy RSVP volunteered more than 342 hours to prepare materials to use in these programs. 
  • 76 different volunteers have helped throughout the year.   
  • Quincy FFA, Liberty FFA, Central FFA and Unity FFA helped at most classroom programs within their school districts for a total of over 253 hours.  
  • An Open House for educators was held in 2016 and will have another on September 6th, 2017.  Lesson and supplies were made available to teachers. 
  • Organized and worked the Ag Education Tent at the Adams County Fair. Pepsi provided signage for the tent to increase awareness. In 2016, 1,112 people went through the tent. Unity FFA and Liberty FFA helped in the tent. 
  • Helped judge 4-H exhibits at Hancock and Adams County fairs.  
  • Supervised Farm Bureau intern Kara McCleary for the Summer of 2016.  Martin Nall is the intern for 2017. 
  • Grant writing completed for ADM Community Cares Grant, Tracy Family Foundation, Community Foundation and Penny Power.  
  • Presented Pretzels and Wheat at the Quincy Public Library Summer Reading Kick-Off in 2016. For 2017, we will present Dairy/Butter. 
  • For professional development, Robin will attend the National Ag in the Classroom Convention in Kansas City, Missouri in June 2017. She attended the conference in Phoenix Arizona during the Summer of 2016.  
  •  Teachers and select community members can request lessons or borrow the supplies to teach them.  
  • Ag Literacy contributed to Blessed Sacrament Ag Day and St. James Ag Day with help of the Quincy FFA Chapter.
