Weekly Fruit and Vegetable Update

Posted by Mike Roegge - Articles

1- 4" soil temps

  1. Monmouth 67.9
  2. Perry 72.5

2- European Corn Borer are present in early sweet corn, populations depend largely upon how much non GMO field corn is raised in the area. Some fields have infestations of up to 40% and control will be required to prevent the borers from entering the ear. This weeks IL Fruit and Vegetable News contains info on identification and control (if you don't receive the newsletter, it will be available mid week at http://ipm.illinois.edu/ifvn/index.php). And if you don't get it, there is no cost and it is emailed out every other week during the growing season. It's a great reference.

3- Leaf mold is making its presence known in high tunnel tomatoes. The newsletter has additional information on identity and control.
