ACA Spurs We Choose Health Initiative in Illinois

Did you know that the Illinois Department of Public Health has implemented an obesity and tobacco prevention initiative as a result of funding from the Affordable Health Care Act? The We Choose Health initiative is working with local coalitions and communities to introduce proactive health programs that fall under three categories: Health Eating and Active Living; Smoke-free Living; and Healthy and Safe Built Environment. Funded communities are as follows:

  • Champaign-Urbana Public Health District for Champaign County.
  • Clinton County Health Department for Bond, Clay, Clinton, Crawford, Edwards, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Jefferson, Lawrence, Marion, Wabash, Washington, and Wayne County.
  • DeKalb County Health Department for DeKalb County.
  • Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department for Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Saline, White, and Williamson.
  • Henry County Health Department for Henry and Stark Counties.
  • Jackson County Health Department for Alexander, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, and Union Counties.
  • Kendall County Health Department for Kendall County.
  • Logan County Health Department for Logan County.
  • Macon County Health Department for Macon County.
  • Madison County Health Department for McHenry County.
  • McLean County Health Department for McLean County.
  • Mercer County Health Department for Mercer, Henderson, and Warren Counties.
  • Rock Island County Health Department for Rock Island County.
  • St. Clair County Health Department for St. Clair County.
  • Whiteside County Health Department for Whiteside, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, and Carroll Counties.
  • Mercer County Health Department for Winnebago and Boone Counties.
