Food Packaging Event to Combat Hunger

Saturday November 4, 2017

8:30 AM to 3 PM

at Shawnee Community College Gym and Cafeteria

LOCAL CONTACT: Kristi Stout – 618-745-5200

4-H members from the southern five counties of Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pulaski and Union counties are fighting back to end hunger in the southern Illinois area. The youth will join other community residents to package more than 100,000 meals. These meals will be distributed thru food pantries in the southernmost five counties!

Our counties needs are high and the holidays are quickly approaching; therefore, we have a desire to lead our 4-H youth to volunteer to make a difference.  These meal packets will be distributed to local food pantries and school back pack programs, and other entities serving families in need.  4-H volunteers and staff take pride in giving back to the local community. In addition to the meal packets, we will be providing recipes so these meals could be used as a main course with the addition of meat, soup or other vegetables.

The public is invited to volunteer.

Register on-line at:  https://web.extension.illinois.edu/registration/?RegistrationID=17338.
