Why: Preparing your business for a disaster can help save lives, merchandise and money. That's why University of Illinois Extension is offering a disaster preparedness course for businesses called Ready Business.
Who: This course is for owners, managers and employees of small and medium-sized businesses
When: Taught in a classroom setting, this 6.5-hour course will be offered three times: 9:00 am-3:30 pm

Rick Atterberry is a Communications Specialist in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences where he is a Team Leader in Information Technology and Communication Services. He serves as secretary of the nationwide Extension Disaster Education Network and volunteers as the Public Information Officer for the Champaign County Emergency Management Agency. Rick also serves on the campus Critical Incident Communications Team. Other community activities include chairing the Champaign-Urbana Cable Television and Telecommunications Commission, hosting the Champaign Connection cable television show for the city and appearing frequently on-air for WILL television. Rick came to the University 12 years ago after a 30-year career in commercial radio, mostly at full-service and news-talk stations. His wife, Gisele, is an art historian and daughter, Rachel, is an attorney. He recently co-founded a 4-H Sailing Club in hopes of introducing a new generation to his favorite sport.
Susan Odum is an Extension Educator in Community Economic Development with primary responsibility for development, delivery and evaluation of educational programs supporting the mission of the University of Illinois Extension across the 16-county region of southernmost Illinois. Odum has contributed to the University of Illinois Extension knowledge base by participation in professional development activities including the Midwest Community Development Institute. In 2009, Odum received certification as a Professional Community and Economic Developer (PCED) from the Community Development Council. During her time with Extension, Odum has worked closely with city and county governments, community leaders and community development organizations to facilitate community and economic development efforts in the region. Odum has also engaged key stakeholder groups in community and economic development topics including: asset utilization; tourism development; small business development; business retention and expansion; downtown redevelopment; tax increment finance (TIF); buy local campaigns; and "growing your own" as a sustainable economic development strategy.
