Can you specify what kind of fertilizer to use as you mentioned in your previous post? I have the same issue, but added nitrogen (it was in a bag called blood meal I believe). It is planted in the same large pot as a tomato plant. Never seen basil this color. The leaves are also very tough.

Also, will the current yellowish leaves change color or will it be the new leaves which show improvement?

Thanks, Liz http://www.simpleitaliancooking.com

Hi,

when basil and other things are grown in contaiers they need to be fertilized on a regualr basis (about every 2 weeks) with an all purpose liquid type of fertilizer. The reason for the poor color is that the plants when only supplied with water soon run out of nutrients in the soil mix and it needs to be replaced. use something like miricle grow, rapid grow or similar. Mix as per label directions and water as if you were watering normally. doing it more often doesn't hurt either. The tough leaves are also a result of a plant growing slow due to lack of nutrients. A fast growing basil produces the best foliage. The yellow color should soon disapper to a greener look shortly after fertlizing. The lower yellow leaves probably won't turn green. Also keep the flowers stems picked off for best basil production
