Boy, I planted this lavender a few times over the past 5 years and it never seems to overwinter for me. I plant them 18-24" apart in well-drained soil in a sunny spot right outside my bedroom window so I can get that nice fragrance. All I smell is the chives and dill, and they are a couple feet from the lavender. Should the lavender be completely alone? Thanks

Hi,

Lavender is sometimes difficult to overwitner successfully and they must have very sharp drainage especially during the winter. Wet winter soils are not to their liking. As far as fragrance it all depends on warm temperatures causing the oils in the leaves to volatolize and I don't think it has anything to do with what it is planted with.
