Many of the leaves on my Witch Hazel tree did not fall off this winter and dry and brown but remain on the tree (today is April 1). Should I cut them off or leave them? Is this typical? The tree generally has some leaves remaining in the spring but never this many. Thanks for your assistance.

Hi,

Sometimes trees experience early cold in the fall which prevents the leaves from forming an absision layer causing the leaves to fall off. If his is the cas he leaves stay on until spring when tey get pushed off by new leaves emerging. No need to do anything It will take care of itself.
