Greetings Karren:
Cucumbertree (Magnolia acuminata) is Illinois's only true native magnolia. Yellow-poplar is in the same family, Magnoliaceae; however, it is not technically a magnolia -- yellow-poplar's binomial is Liriodendron tulipifera.
