I have a potted elephant ear plant in my garden that has five stems of leaves. Once the leaves start to yellow, should they be cut back, or left until the first frost? Then where do you cut them?

Hi,
For appearance sake I would suggest that the old leaves be cut off just about at where they meet the main stem of the plant. They really add nothing to the plant and look better when cut off.
