I am looking to see the trunks of 2 walnut trees after I cut them down. I have had one guy approach with an offer and am not sure if its a good offer. The bigger of the two is 26" in diameter about 6'1" circumference and 16-18' tall. The smaller is only about 21" in diameter and 14' tall. How many board feet are in each tree and what would be a good market value for these trees per BF?

Greetings Aaron:

Sorry, but extension forestry does not estimate or appraise trees, logs, lumber via this forum. Estimates or appraisals need to be conducted on-site by a professional or a reputable individual. Alternatively, please use the Illinois Timber Prices Bulletin to estimate standing timber values and free on board pricing here in Illinois.

Volume estimate for Tree 1 at 26" dbh with one 16' sawlog = 272 bf (Doyle). Volume estimate for Tree 2 at 21" dbh with 14' sawlog = 147 bf (Doyle).
