I bough 2 Hydrenga bushes many years ago. One plant was in bloom when I received it.The next year we moved and I brought the plants with. I planted them on the west side of house. The plants never did bloom. I was instructed to move them to a site where they could be better protected from the elements. I moved them to the northside. The plants are close to the foundation and porch and are protected, yet they have never bloomed. The soil is moist and plants are mostly in the shade. They turn into nice shrubs but no blooms.

Hi, The only thing I can think of is if it is a Hydrangea macrophyla type which blooms on old stems or last years growth. If those stems become winter damaged or if the shrub is pruned in the spring before it starts growing the flower buds are also lost. The plant will produce leaves but no flowers. If you can try to make sure the current stems do not get cold damaged or die back occurs over the wintier. It may mean protecting the stems much like you protect roses over the winter with a heavy application of mulch to protect the stems and the flower buds they carry.
