Black currant varieties

I want to plant a couple of black currant bushes, but not sure of the best varieties for this area. The only variety I have found locally is "Consort" and though it is immune to White Pine Rust, it is highly susceptible to mildew. "Tatania" and "Black Down" both sound resistant to the rust and to mildew. "Crandall" sounds especially ornamental, but couldn't find anything about it's mildew resistance. We have a white pine tree in our yard--assuming that won't be a problem if we get a variety resistant to the rust. "Ben Sarak", "Ben Connan" and "Tahsis" also sound good. What varieties would you recommend, preferably for more compact bushes with large sweet berries with good yields, that would grow well in Urbana and be the most disease resistant?

Thank you. What about Consort's and Crandall's resistance to mildew? Both Tisel and Tahsis say they are immune to pine rust and resistant to mildew.

Hi,

As I understand they are tolerant/resistant.
