Bugs on Hollyhocks

Last year I found small black beetle-like bugs with orange markings on our hollyhocks. Today I found hundreds of bright red eggs encrusted on the stems of our sunflowers. Any idea of what these might be? They don't seem to fly.

Hi,

Hard to say what they might be without seeing them but if they are in fact eggs there is a chance you can keep infestations of what they might turn into down to a minimum by just lightly scraping them off. If you wait for them to hatch you might have a harder time in controlling.
