Dwarf fruit tree spacing

Hi:

I would like to plant 3 dwarf fruit trees in my back yard. An apricot, a peach, and an apple tree, all in a row along the back of my property. The area gets full sun. The apricot variety is Blenheim. The peach variety is Reliance. The apple will be a Honeycrisp.

I was wondering how many feet to allow for spacing between the trees?

Also, would you recommend fertilizing them in the first year, or after? What type of fertilizer?

Thanks,

Darain Schug

Hi,

On average dwarf fruit trees should be spaced about 10-12 feet apart. At planting time you could add about 1/8 pound of fertilizer such as 10-10-10 to each tree spreading it evenly around the planting area and working is in lightly. After that fertilization will be dependant on the amount of shoot growth that occurs each year. If there is active growth (shoots growing 10-20" each season) there really is no need to add additional fertilizer. When shoot growth slows down then 1/2-1 pound of fertilizer is added for every year of age of the tree up to a maximum of 10 pounds. Work this into the soil starting about a foot frm the trunk. Use similar 10-10-10 fertilizer.
