We have a mature weeping willow tree in the backyard that has a few dead limbs that appear to have some kind of fungus growing on them. The tree has also been infestated by bugs that has caused the bark to come off the trunk. The tree has filled out with leaves beautifully this spring. Is there anything I can apply to the tree to rid the bugs, possible fungus, and heal the tree. it provides great shade for our backyard and we hope to save it.

Hi,

It's goping to be hard to answer your question with specifics without seeing the tree as there are all kinds of things that can be going on here. You say mature but don't say how old. Often as willows get old you will normally see a lot of dead branches in the tree. The "fungus" you say is on the branches may not be the cause but the result of a dead branch that normaly wood rotting fungi inhabit. If that is the case removing older/dead limbs is the best solution. As far as bark coming off. Here again it may be the result of and old tree, previous wounds etc and behind the bark may be some insects living where it is convienent. Older trees such as this can live for many years with these conditions and i really don't think spays are going to do much. Again you may want to havae someone come out to inspect to give a better idea of what might be going on.
