Wolf Spider?

I trapped a fairly large, fat spider under a tub last night (wanted my boys to see it as I wasn't sure what kind it was and it was so large, about 1 1/2" in length and its abdomen was bumpy). This morning, after checking it out, my boys said its abdomen split open and all these babies came out. I had walked away so I didn't see this for myself, but I did see the adult spider was dead and hundreds of tiny spiders crawling all over the place. I didn't think spiders laid live young? I read they sometimes carry young on their backs but this one was trapped overnight, and I peeked at it a couple times before my boys did and never did see any young crawling around. Just curious what you think was happening?

Hi,

The only thing I can think of is that spiders usully carry a large egg sack with them and it may be that the spider had one and while in captivity it hached releasing the young.
