I have several large oak trees of various types in my yard. One of the trees has already dropped its acorns as of 1 July and the tree is giving off a sticky mist that get all over anything around the tree. The leaves on the tree have that same mist and appear to be wet. Can you tell me what is happening here?

Hi,

May not be unusual to see trees drop acorns early due to the dry conditions. The sticky material may be the result of either aphids of scales feeding up in the tree canopy. As they feed they give off a sugary secretion. On very large trees and at this time of the year not much to do as sprays may not be effective and if used they have to thorughly cover the canopy fo the tree to do any good. The tree will survive but it may be messy underneath it.
