Wood Poles for Hop Yard (IL)

I am in Peotone and looking to start growing a hop yard. In the research I've been doing, people recommend checking in with the dnr for potentially getting old trees to use as hop poles. Most hop yards utilize cedar and black locust at 18-22' lengths by 6"+ diameter. I was curious if this is something you ever come across and if you could fill me in on how to obtain some posts if possible. Thanks for your time

Hi Nicholas:

IDNR will not be able to supply you with old trees to use as hop poles -- you'll simply have to source this material on your own via local woodland owners and farmers.

Best of luck!
