I live out in the country, where an old cow pasture used to be and now has trees and a creek by it. I've been seeing (in the last 2-3) a BUNCH of these giant spiders and need help identifying it please.

The spider I'm guessing is a Giant House Spider. I've seen them out in my garage and in the basement. They are dark brown or black with a LONG body (about 2 inches tall) and about an inch wide. They are very QUICK in movement. They don't fly or jump and I have yet to see any with webs. When I do seem them they are at night.

Appreciate any help identifying this spider!

I DO have photos if someone can tell me where I can add them to this?

Thanks! Katrina

Thank you for providing images out side of this program. You are seeing Wolf Spiders. They can become quite large by this time of year. Like other insects with the changing temperatures, they seek out places of warmth. they are very quick as you note because the race out of their webs to capture their prey.

Thank you for your response! I am finding them more and more frequently inside even last I posted.

I have a dog (small breed) who was bitten by an (unknown) poisonous insect or arachnid.

Are wolf spiders dangerous to people or animals?

Thanks again! Katrina

The Black Widow is the only poisonous spider I am aware of, the majority are harmless, more afraid of us than we are of them. Often times we get "bite" and it is not a spider at all. Entomologists do not consider a wolf spider to be dangerous to us. Spiders typically favor dark, moist places. If there are lots of spiders, then the environment and abundant food source makes that possible
