Moss in Brick Pavers

I have a brick paver patio. In the cracks between the pavers, there are little bumps of moss (?) growing. Each year I tediously try to pull it out, but there are so many and it comes back. What can I do to get rid of this moss once and for all and the few weeds that pop up in the cracks? Thanks.

Hi,

There are spray solutions of potassium salts available for controling moss in areas such as youre. For the weeds I might suggest using roundup spray.

What are "Potassium Salts"? Does it come as a solution or do you have to mix it?

I heard that a bleach solution would work too, but am afraid that it will discolor the bricks? What mixture of bleach and water would be best? How do you apply it?

Hi,

Generally for basic sterilization of garden equipment a 1 to 9 bleach water solution is suggested. Suggest you mix and use it in a very small out of the way area before using it everywhere to wee what it might do to brick.

Potsssium salts of fatty acids are commonly called soap salts. they are used in insecticides, herbicides and fungicides. They are produced by adding potassium hydroxide to fatty acids found in animal fats and plant oils. They are often ready to use produts found at the garden center either as a ready to use sprya or in concentrate that yo mix with water. common ones include safer moss and algae control, insecticidal soaps and safer weed and grass killer.
