I am thinking about planting my cucumbers between rows of corn to save space in my garden. Would this work?

Mike:

Probably not. This is due to the likelihood of the sweet corn shading out the low growing cucumbers. Since the corn is planted earlier in late April - early May and the the cukes are not planted till mid-May (after frost-free date), the corn plants will have a significant head start and shade the row middles by mid-June.

If you plant lettuce, radishes, peas, or onions; a better option would be to plant your cukes between these rows, since these crops grow lower and are harvested by mid-June when the cukes need full sun.
