this wooded area along a bike path has this vine with what looks like multiple tight clusters of very small grapes in a perfect globe shape. what is this? I have only seen this bizarre hanging globe cluster vine in the Shenandoah national forest.

I think what you are seeing is Smilax lasioneura. Also called carrion flower.
