I have a very old Willow tree that has sprouted out reddish brown flower-like spongy clusters from the midddle of the tree up 6'+. What is it, and how should I treat it?

Tara - sorry, it sounds like the fruiting body of a wood rot. I would have it evaluated by a professional, because it could be dangerous to what ever is underneath it! You can find more info, here: http://urbanext.illinois.edu/hortanswers/detailproblem.cfm?PathogenID=47
