Serve it Safely Workshop Planned

September 12, 2012

Any club, church or organization that holds community dinners, bake sales, bazaars or other events involving serving food to the public will benefit from a new seminar on food safety offered by University of Illinois Extension – Boone County.

"Serve it Safely," is open to anyone involved in preparing and serving food at public events. The seminar is from 6-8:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1 at the Boone County Extension's new location, 205 Cadillac Court, Suite 5, Belvidere.

Organizers of events involving food are often unaware of basic safety principles. Knowing more about food safety helps make these events run smoothly, safely and successfully. Extension Nutrition and Wellness Educator Marilyn Csernus teaches these critical food safety principles that will help prevent a fun-filled event from turning into a food-safety disaster.

The seminar will focus on safely preparing, storing and serving food for public consumption. Refreshments and a take-home manual are included. Cost for the seminar is $10 for the first person and $5 for each additional person from the same organization. Pre-registration is preferred by Sept. 25. Class size is limited.
