Sewing & Textiles I, II, & II, Buying your Clothes I & II, Fashion Revue

All Clothing Projects, including accessories and posters need to be brought to the LaSalle County Fairgrounds for Conference Judging which will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in the White building, beginning with check in at 8:00 to 9:00 am. Judging will begin immediately following in the same building. Exhibitors will be assigned a time slot when they check in, so they can return for judging.

Judging and Display Requirements for ALL Clothing & Textiles projects

Judging will be done in 3 parts:

§ Garments will be judged on the model if applicable. If garment was made for someone else other than the 4-H member, the person must be present and wear the garment for judging. That person may participate in the fashion review but NEITHER the garment or the model will be eligible for State Fair selection

§ All Clothing/non-clothing items will be judged off the model for quality of construction

§ Project books/completed activities will be reviewed

Requirements for Judging and Display:

§ Projects covered with clear plastic bag ,NOT garment bag

§ Exhibit tags must be attached to the garment/project NOT the hanger

§ Bring pattern envelope and instruction sheets

§ Bring project books with completed activities

§ Bring accessories at time of judging that will be worn for Fashion Review

Garment/project MUST be CLEAN & PRESSED

Project check in will take place from 8:00-9:00am in the Commercial Building with judging to begin immediately following in the same building. Exhibitors will be assigned a time slot when they check in so that they can return for judging and avoid a lengthy wait.

50181-Fashion Revue – Top Model trophy awarded in this category.

The Fashion Revue will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the 4-H Fairgrounds on Thursday, July 12th in the White building. All Clothing Project members MUST participate in the LaSalle County Style Revue.

Members of any age that have completed a wearable garment in any of the Clothing & Textiles project categories are eligible and encouraged to enter. Members that exhibit non-clothing items are allowed to walk in the Fashion Review if they wish but will not be eligible to go to the State Fair in this area

Project requirements:

§ Must be enrolled in any of the following Clothing & Textiles projects; 50175, 50176, 50177, 50178, 50179, 50181.

§ "Fashion Review Narrative Information Sheet" MUST be completed and MUST be returned to office by June 22 when fair entries are turned in.

§ Suggested attendance at Clothing & Textiles workshop in office basement

June 16, 2012 from 9:30 – 11:30

Exhibit requirements:

§ Model in Fashion Review held in White Commercial building at 3:00 pm Thurs July 12, 2012 on LaSalle County Fair grounds

Evaluation of Fashion Review based on the following:

§ Selection of garment

§ Fit of garment on model

§ Personal grooming

§ Stage Presence (ability to model)

50175-Sewing & Textiles 1 – Trophy for "Best of Show" will be awarded in this category

Recommended ages:

§ 8, 9, 10 years old

Project requirements:

§ Complete at least 4 activities in "Under Construction" each year in project

Exhibit requirements:

§ Exhibit clothing and/or non-clothing item appropriate for age and experience of member

§ Suggestions for non-clothing items include but are not limited to 9 patch pillow, tote bag, or draw string back pack made by the 4-H member

§ Suggestions for clothing items include but are not limited to items made by the 4-H member that display garment construction using commercial patterns labeled EASY or SIMPLE and that include only a few pattern pieces such as elastic waist PJ pants, gathered skirts, etc.

Evaluation of project based on the following:

§ Quality of workmanship

§ Selection/fit/general appearance of project

§ Member's knowledge of project, activities in book, etc.

50176-Sewing & Textiles 2 - Trophy for "Best of Show" will be awarded in this category

Recommended ages:

§ 11, 12, 13, 14 years old

Project requirements:

§ Complete at least 4 activities in "Fashion Forward" for each year in project

Exhibit requirements:

§ Exhibit either clothing item and/or non-clothing item appropriate for age and experience of member

§ Suggestions for non-clothing items include items made by the 4-H member using more difficult techniques each year such as stuffed animal, wall hanging, quilt square pillow, etc.

§ Suggestions for clothing items include but are not limited to a garment or combination of garments made by the 4-H member using more difficult sewing techniques each year

Evaluation of project based on the following:

§ Quality of workmanship

§ Selection/fit/general appearance of project

§ Member's knowledge of project, activities in book, etc.

50177-Sewing & Textiles 3 - – Trophy for "Best of Show" will be awarded in this category

Recommended ages:

§ 15, 16, 17, 18 years old

Project requirements:

§ Complete at least 4 activities in "Refine Design" for each year in project

Exhibit requirements :

§ Exhibit a garment constructed by 4-H member and/or a modified/redesigned/recycled garment appropriate for the age and experience of member

§ Suggestions for garment made by 4-H member include but are not limited to projects using fabrics not used before (wool, plaids, satin, etc.) and/or using more difficult techniques each year (set-in sleeves, buttonholes, tailoring techniques, evening wear, fly-front trousers, etc.)

§ Suggestions for modified/redesigned/recycled garment include garments that have been purchased or acquired by the 4-H member and salvaged by significantly altering the original design to create a new garment

§ Photo of garments prior to modification/redesign/recycle MUST be included with project (Can be include with Fashion Review narration)

Evaluation of project based on the following:

§ Quality of workmanship

§ Selection/fit/general appearance of project

§ Member's knowledge of project, activities in book, etc.

50179- You Buy Clothes 1 - County project ONLY – Trophy will be awarded in this category

Recommended ages:

§ 11, 12, 13, 14 years old

Project requirements:

§ Complete one activity from "Discovering Choice"

§ Create poster or exhibit of project

Exhibit requirements:

§ Display one completed activity from project book

§ Display must not exceed 2 ½' by 2 ½' table top space

§ If the item is a purchased garment, it must be worn for judge

§ Inclusion of an actual purchased item otherwise is optional

§ Photo of purchased item, no larger than 4"x6" is required

§ All receipts and hang tags MUST be included

§ 4-H enrollment tag MUST be attached to poster NOT the hanger or garment

§ See "Judging and Display" requirements below

Evaluation of project based on the following:

§ Selection/fit/general appearance of project

§ Member's knowledge of project, activities in book, etc.

50180- You Buy Clothes 2 - County project ONLY - Trophy will be awarded in this category

Recommended ages:

§ 15, 16, 17, 18 year olds

Project requirements:

§ Complete one activity from "Managing Choice"

§ Create poster or exhibit of project

Exhibit requirements:

§ Exhibit and display one completed activity from project book

§ Display must not exceed 2 ½' by 2 ½' table top space

§ If the item is a purchased garment, it MUST be worn for judge

§ Inclusion of an actual purchased item is otherwise optional

§ Photo of purchased item, no larger than 4"x6" is required

§ All receipts and hang tags MUST be included

§ 4-H enrollment tag MUST be attached to poster NOT the hanger or garment

50178 - Clover Challenge: Clothing & Textiles

Recommended ages:

§ Ages 14-18

Project requirement s:

§ See general rule #30 for Clover Challenge requirements

Exhibit requirements:

§ Exhibit a display illustrating the Clover challenge area explored

§ The completed Illinois 4-H Clover Challenge Agreement must be presented with the exhibit

Evaluation of project based on the following:

§ Quality of workmanship if applicable

§ Selection/fit/general appearance of project

§ Member's knowledge of project, activities in book, etc.

- Exhibit a display illustrating the Clover Challenge area explored. See General Rule #10 for Clover Challenge requirements. The completed Illinois 4-H Clover Challenge Agreement must be presented with the exhibit.
