Speakout For 4-H Contest-Public Presentations

Check-in will begin at 12:15 pm in the White Building

Contest Conducted Thursday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m. White Building. Bring a lawn chair, some chairs will be provided.

1. All 4-H members are eligible to participate.

2. State Fair Delegates and Alternates are selected at this contest.

3. Register for contest by June 22nd with fair entries.

4. Exhibitors are limited to one speech and one food demonstration.

5. Categories for contest are as follows:

General Category - Topics for general category could include, but are not limited to, Promoting 4-H; Why I Like 4-H; How 4-H Has Helped Me; Why You Should Join 4-H; or talks, demonstrations or action presentations about a 4-H project. (This category is not eligible for State Fair.) Time limitation -- maximum of 10 minutes. No minimum.

50235-Formal Speech - Formal Speeches (without props or aids) must be between 4-6 minutes in length and done by individual member. Formal Speeches provide information to the audience. Note cards are not considered a prop and are allowed.

50236-Extempore Speaking - Exhibitors must be present 45 minutes before the beginning of the contest to select their topics. Topics will relate to events of state, national or international importance from January, 2007 to present. Exhibitors will draw three topic options for their speech from a large number of topics. They will immediately select one of these topics for their speech. Participants will have 45 minutes to prepare a 4-6 minute speech. Participants are responsible for providing their own research materials. (This category is not eligible for State Fair)

50237-Demonstration - Demonstrations may pertain to any topic (Exception: Foods- Nutrition entries must enter through the appropriate foods class.) Demonstrations may be given by an individual or team of two members. Exhibitors are responsible for furnishing all equipment and supplies needed. Demonstrations must be 8-10 minutes in length. Food Demonstrations are not a division of Public Presentations. (This category is not eligible for State Fair)

50238-Illustrated Speech - Illustrated Speeches (with visual aids) must be between 4-6 minutes in length and done by an individual member.

50239-Original Works - Member may present any type of original works (i.e. comedy, storytelling, original poetry, radio segment, etc.). It may be done by an individual or a team of no more than 3 members. Works must have been written by one of the team members. Segment must be between 4-6 minutes in length. Original work presentations are designed to entertain an audience.

50240-Oral Interpretation - May be humorous or dramatic interpretation, oratorical declamation, prose reading or verse reading. Materials may be read or memorized. It may be done by an individual or a team of no more than three members. Musical presentations are not appropriate for this class. Interpretation must be between 4-6 minutes in length.

50199 -Food Demonstration – Food demonstrations should be 8 – 10 minutes in length. Demonstrations may be done by an individual or team of two members. Exhibitors are responsible for furnishing all equipment and supplies. A demonstration table will be available for demonstrator's use. The food demonstration must come out of your food's project book in which you are enrolled. Please note- State food demonstrations are tentative as of April 24. The date and location of this activity is undetermined. This project might not show during state fair.

AWARDS: Up to four Speak Out for 4-H trophies will be awarded.
