Master Gardeners Marshall-Putnam

Master Gardeners Marshall-Putnam

Healthy Gardening Project

The Healthy Gardening Project is intended to make gardening more accessible to families in need.

Phase one is educating the public on Gardening Practices by hosting a container gardening demonstration. The gardening classes always conclude with a panel question-and-answer segment to make sure no one is left wondering about how to do something. The Master Gardeners hosted three classes this year in April and early May. Classes took place at the Magnolia Library, Toluca Library and Putnam County Community Center.

Phase two is supplying plants, seeds, containers, soil and raised beds to those who need assistance. This is done with co-operation with the local food pantries and churches in Marshall-Putnam Counties. Master Gardeners were present at food pantries in Lacon, Henry, Granville, and Toluca throughout the month of May for distribution of the containers and seeds.

Phase three is a class to show how to take the food from the garden and how to put it on the table. In 2015, “From Your Garden to Your Table” presenting Chef Monika from Chestnut Street Inn Bed and Breakfast, was held at the American Legion in Toluca, as well as the Putnam County Community Center in Standard.
