Bureau County Farm Bureau® in conjunction with Henry, Knox, Mercer and Stark County Farm Bureaus, the University of Illinois Extension Units within those counties is coordinating a series of two equine seminars coming up in November.
The series will kick-off on Thursday, November 1 with a presentation from the New Kingdom Trail Riders (NKT). NKT is part of a world-wide movement that recognizes the benefits of therapeutic riding. Therapeutic riding has been endorsed by the American Occupational Therapy Association and is being prescribed as therapy in rehabilitation hospital settings. Come and learn more about a therapeutic horseback riding program known as "Mounted Achievers" that provides an alternative type of physical therapy and rehabilitation to the mentally and physically handicapped of the Greater Quad City area and surrounding communities. Also that evening Jennifer Fecht, Certified Equine Massage Therapist, will give a demonstration about equine massage.
The second and final week, November 8, will feature a demonstration from Huntermark Farm located in Coal Valley. They are the only barn in the Quad Cities area dedicated exclusively to Hunters and Jumpers. Rachel Rock Robinson, instructor, will be speaking for the evening. She will have a student to represent each of the 3 hunt seat disciplines: Hunters, Jumpers, and Equitation. Together they will compare and contrast the disciplines while the students demonstrate various techniques and some exercises that attendees could try with their horses at home.
Both sessions run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Ag Arena at Black Hawk East with check in starting at 6:15. The sessions are free for 4-H members, FFA members and BHE students. The cost for all other persons is $5/person. Please call the Bureau County Farm Bureau at (815) 875-6468 by October 25th to register for the first session on November 1.
