Pressure Canner Testing Clinics and Food Demonstrations!

Enjoy the freshness of produce all year long when you preserve your food. One popular method of food preservation is pressure canning.  Test your pressure canner dial gauge annually to ensure a safe food preservation season.  University of Illinois Extension offers this service free of charge.  Bring your pressure canner lid with the dial gauge attached for testing at local Extension Offices listed below.  Remember, weighted pressure canners do not need to be tested.

University of Illinois Extension FREE Pressure Canner Dial Gauge Testing Walk-in Clinics are available from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at local offices on:

April 28:  LaSalle County Office, 1689 North 31st Road, Ottawa

May 5:  Marshall Putnam Office, 509 Front Street, Henry

May 12:  Bureau County Office, 850 Thompson Street, Princeton

In addition, attend our class and food demonstration; Preserving your Food, Canning, Freezing and Drying Seasonal Foods, offered at each clinic from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  Join Susan Glassman, Nutrition and Wellness Educator to discuss the advantages of food preservation, different food preservation methods, and current, research-based food safety and handling procedures for successful food preservation. Whether you are a beginner or expert, you will gain knowledge about preserving delicious fruits and vegetables for culinary enjoyment throughout the year.  Enjoy a sample of delicious homemade strawberry jam and take home recipes!  Please call University of Illinois Extension at 815-224-0889 to register for the class.
