News Release

Cover Crop Management/Resistant Weed Control Program

Join University of Illinois Extension and the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau on Tuesday, February 27, for a Cover Crop Management/Resistant Weed Control Program. Area producers and landlords are encouraged to attend. The program will be held at the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau Building in Henry. There is no fee to participate. Pre-registration is requested by February 20 to the Extension office at 309-364-2356. CCA Credits have been applied for.                      

Topics of discussion include:

· Need to promote soil health and improve fertility

· Control erosion and weed management

· Increase organic matter, improve soil value and quality

· How to manage and lessen damage due to resistant weeds coming into our area

· Modern tillage practices to improve soil health

· How to identify resistant weeds

· How up-to-date chemical control can be used against resistant weeds

The presenters for the evening are Russ Higgins, University of Illinois Extension Commercial

Agriculture Educator and Barry Soliday, Crop Protection Territory Manager with Growmark.
