The Robots are invading University of Illinois Extension

On your mark, get set, flow! 4-H youth in LaSalle County “drank” in the 2017/2018 HYDRO DYNAMICSSM season and began learning all about water – how we find, transport, use, or dispose of it. In the 4-H Intermediate Robotics SPIN Club, members from 4th - 8th grades made a splash with FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge- HYDRO DYNAMICS. With anticipated excitement, members experienced their first session led by SPIN Club Leader, Kit Passwater and co-leader Terri Sancken.

What might become possible when we understand what happens to our water? FIRST® LEGO® League challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. During the HYDRO DYNAMICS season, members chose and solved real-world problems. They built, tested, and programmed an autonomous robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the robot game. Throughout their experience, teams also operated under a set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and gracious professionalism along with the 4-H motto of “Learn by Doing.” Experiential learning is the basis of 4-H programs.

If you are interested in Robotics and the opportunities 4-H can provide, call Toni Pienta, 4-H and Youth Development Coordinator, at the U of I Extension, LaSalle County office,  815-433-0707.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate please contact 815-433-0707.
