The Jersey County HCE and the University of Illinois Extension collaborated recently to hold a "4-H Sew Much Fun" Sewing Workshop at the Jerseyville Public Library. Participants were given a material supply list in order to choose their fabrics for a "Quick and Easy Pillowcase."
HCE members supplied sewing machines along with their love of sewing to guide participants in constructing their pillowcases. The program was led by Dinah Breitweiser with the help of Sandy Bechtold, Mary Lou Hess, Margie Meuth, Elizabeth Schwab, Karen Teeter, and Phyllis Georgeff.
"Interest in the sewing workshop exceeded our expectations," according to Judy Benz, 4-H
Program coordinator for Jersey County. It attracted not only youth but also adults who wanted to learn more about sewing. The participants enjoyed taking home a
custom made pillowcase.

The Happy Trails 4-H Horse Club has been busy in December and January. Club officers were elected at the December meeting held at Trinity Hill Farms. Presenter for the December meeting was, local farrier, Bill Brown, who
demonstrated how to clean and
trim hooves. Brown not only
demonstrated the procedure but also talked about horse behaviors. There was a question and answer session followed by a pot luck meal.
In January the club met at the Piasa Township Building outside of Delhi. The presenter for this meeting was Dr. Jon McCormick of Jersey-Calhoun Veterinary
Hospital in Jerseyville. He talked about health issues affecting horses and how maintaining a regular schedule can help avoid many health problems.
Their next meeting will be held on Monday, February 18th starting at 6 p.m. at Trinity Hill Farms on Route 267 south of Jerseyville.
