Flora volunteer named to Illinois 4-H Foundation Hall of Fame

Jacquie Lueking has been selected as the 2012 Illinois 4-H Foundation Hall of Fame Award recipient from Clay County. She will be formally honored at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Saturday, Aug. 11.

"Jacquie has a special ability to make children want to learn," said Judy Mae Bingman, Extension Educator, Youth. "Her enthusiasm is contagious, and the youth under her leadership have exceled.

"As leader of the Odds 'n Ends Club 4-H Club, she works cooperatively with the kids on group projects and service activities," Bingman said. "This year, she'll take her entire club to the state fair to present the club's joint intercultural project on Brazil."

Lueking's involvement spans more than 20 years, from community club guidance and work with the horse specialty camp to fundraising and leadership of the overall University of Illinois Extension program in the county. She has trained youth who have competed in state and national 4-H horse events, such as the state horse judging team and national equine speech contest.

The Lueking Horse Farm is one of the sponsors of the annual Young Riders 4-H Horse Camp, an intensive four-day camp where kids get help with riding, horse management and competitive events. Lueking serves as advisor and leader for the horse club.

"I feel very fortunate to be able to give the 4-H members the opportunity to see how much they can accomplish," Lueking said.
