Fayette County 4-Hers earn ribbons, trophies, awards at annual show

Fayette County 4-H members put months of work up for display and evaluation June 29-30 during the annual Fayette County 4-H Show. The members exhibited food, clothing, art, science, health, citizenship, horticulture and natural resource projects at the Brownstown Elementary School in Brownstown.

Volunteer judges evaluated each 4-H project against a score sheet which tested not only the craftsmanship of the project, but also the knowledge of the 4-H member during the conference judging time. Local volunteer judges included Keri Buscher, Kristy Dokey, Casie Bowman, Judy and Charlie Voelker, Rich Carter, Joe and Donna Zerrusen, Mary Ann Rhoades, Wil Bingman and Rebecca Hubele, who donated their service to assist the 4-H members improve their project work.

In addition to an A or B rating, members were eligible for several awards. One "Best in Class" (BC) exhibit was selected in each project division of the show. Those projects then competed for overall "Best of Show" (BS) trophies in the 10 major project categories. Members who were at least 10 years of age by Sept. 1, 2011 could compete for the right to exhibit at the state fair (SF). A new "Superior" (S) ribbon was added this year for judges to award at their discretion for any project they felt was exceptional in quality.
