Leia Kedem is committed to helping community members acquire the tools needed to live healthier lifestyles. She takes a comprehensive approach to health behavior change and addresses knowledge, skills, and motivational strategies to enable individuals and groups to eat more healthfully and increase physical activity.
Kedem earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a Master of Science degree in nutritional sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During her graduate studies, she was employed by McKinley Health Center in Urbana, where she assisted with health promotion, facilitated nutrition workshops for the campus community, and guest-lectured for general education courses. Kedem subsequently completed her dietetic internship through the University of Houston in Texas.
Kedem is a registered dietitian and is a licensed dietitian/nutritionist in the state of Illinois. She also holds a Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Kedem is a member of the Academy of the Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association) and the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior. She has presented her research on attitudes towards diet and health at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' annual meeting and the conference of the American Society for Nutrition. Her work has been published in the American Journal of Health Behavior.
Kedem's special areas of interest include weight management, diabetes education, family nutrition practices, and safe and healthy cooking.
She enjoys reaching audiences through in-person programs and is active in social media, including Twitter (@moderationmaven) and Pinterest (www.pinterest.com/lweston2). She writes the bimonthly News-Gazette Column "To Your Health" and appears weekly on WCIA-3's Morning Show.
