Vermilion County Master Gardener Tuesday Night Classes
Vermilion County Master Gardeners host a program on the third Tuesday of each month.
The location for most classes is the Danville Public Library 319 N. Vermilion St., Danville at 6:00 p.m.
The public is invited to attend. Call the Vermilion Extension office at 217-442-8615 to pre-register or for more information. You may register online or at the door. Email Jenney Hanrahan email@example.com to sign up in advance.

Tuesday, Feb 20 6pm Attracting birds to your garden all year long with Master Gardener, Leah Brennan.
Leah gardens for the birds twelve months a year. From cardinals to hummingbirds she knows how to attract a wide variety of our feathered friends using a combination of quality food, correct feeders and specific plants in the landscape. More than ever, birds need homeowners to provide food, clean water, shelter, and places to nest. However it’s not one sided-we need birds to feed on insects, rodents and pollinate. Scientists are finding proof that even small habitats can make a big difference. Learn specific steps you can take to have a significant impact on the birds in your neighborhood.

Seed catalogues are so tempting in the winter months. However, actually starting seeds indoors can be challenging. Timing is key and some seeds have special soil, moisture, temperature or even germination requirements. Seed starting can be a complicated endeavor but it doesn’t have to be when you have experienced Master Gardeners demonstrating each step of the process. Learn from the experts! This class will help you get a jump start on spring and enable you to choose specific flower and vegetable varieties to plant in your 2018 garden. Tuesday, April 17 6pm- Roses with Dan Keil
Dan is a Master Rosarian with the American Rose Society and an Emeritus Master Gardener. The Rose Society seeks to further knowledge and enjoyment of roses through educational programs and activities. Dan has been growing roses for about 40 years and currently has about 300 different varieties in his garden. He was featured in a PBS production and has been interviewed for television, radio and newspapers regarding his expertise in roses. Here is your opportunity ask an expert your questions!
Tuesday, May 15 6pm Increase the Yield of your Vegetable Gardens with Master Gardener Walter Deck
Garden soil preparation, PH levels, fertilizers, crop rotation, spacing, pruning, watering, companion planting and mulch are all factors that can affect your vegetable garden yields. Master Gardener Walter Deck will share his expertise on growing vegetables and how to increase your yields. This class will take place in the garden at Walt’s Acres in Ridge Farm. 800 North Orchard St. 217-217-1284
December Make a Holiday Wreath with Mary Stonecipher & Pat Sollars Not only do they look beautiful, but fresh wreaths perfume the air around us and remind us of past holidays. Winter containers overflowing with evergreens provide color during drab winter months. Learn from an expert! Mary Stonecipher is known for her horticulture design. You will make a wreath we furnish the metal ring and a variety of fresh greenery. Bring your garden gloves and decorations to add your personal style. You must pre-pay $15 online or by check/cash at the Vermilion County Extension Office 3164 N. Vermilion, Danville. Make checks payable to: University of Illinois. Call 217-442-8615 for more information. We are unable to take walk-ins. Space is limited and the class sells out every year. Your place is not reserved until payment is received. ‘Make and Take’ Fee required to cover cost of all materials including greens.
