November MONDAY Novermber 13-
Although bluebirds and barn owls live in east central Illinois most homeowners rarely see them in the backyard. How does one attract these two very different and equally fascinating birds?
Dr. Wendy Brown and Stephanie Loveless from the DACC biology department will share their experiences working with bluebirds and owls at the DACC farm.
The owl boxes out at the farm are built to attract barn owls, which are an endangered species. Bluebird populations are also decreasing. Learn how you can help by providing nesting boxes which imitate the cavity nests these species require in nature.
December 5 Holiday Wreaths with Mary Stonecipher & Pat Sollars Not only do they look beautiful, but fresh wreaths perfume the air around us and remind us of past holidays. Winter containers overflowing with evergreens provide color during drab winter months. Learn from an expert! Mary Stonecipher is known for her horticulture design. You will have a choice to make a wreath (we furnish the metal ring) or fill a planter (you bring-no larger than 12" opening). We will furnish a variety of fresh greenery. Bring your garden gloves and decorations to add your personal style. Please bring your planter pre-filled with potting soil or florist foam. You must pre-pay $15 online or by check/cash at the Vermilion County Extension Office 3164 N. Vermilion, Danville. Make checks payable to: University of Illinois. Call 217-442-8615 for more information. We are unable to take walk-ins. Space is limited and the class fills up quickly. Your place is not reserved until payment is received. ‘Make and Take’ Fee required to cover cost of all materials including greens. Class will be held at International Greenhouse Supply 70 Eastgate Danville Industrial Park off Main St.
NOTE 2017 Classes will be at Danville Public Library unless otherwise indicated at 6PM
