Day 4 – In Search of Local Grains

There are five food groups, and so far, I have only eaten from four. The five food groups are fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy and grains. Today I was in search of grains. Luckily, over my lunch hour I was able to head to Red Barn Produce in Edinburg, Illinois and pick up locally grown popcorn and asparagus. They have both white and yellow popcorn available. Then during the afternoon, using a hot air corn popper tried some white popcorn. It was amazing.

To learn more about the popcorn, visit Lisa Peterson's blog post on Poppin' Whole Grains at http://web.extension.illinois.edu/cjmm/eb377/entry_9471/

Menu for Day #4:

  • Breakfast: Glass of Skim Milk and One Hard-Boiled Egg
  • Lunch: Two Small Hamburgers Wrapped in Lettuce
  • Snack: Bowl of White Popcorn
  • Dinner: Pork Chop Glazed with Local Honey and Asparagus
