The Macoupin County 4-H program held their annual 4-H Foods Show at the county fairgrounds on Friday, June 22. Approximately 40 4-H members exhibited their foods projects. Some of the projects that 4-H members enrolled in included Food Preservation, Cake Decorating, Candy Making, and 4-H Cooking 101, 201, 301, or 401. Some of the food products exhibited included cookies, muffins, cake, dinner rolls, cereal marshmallow bars, quick breads, jellies and jams, fudge, and decorated cakes.
Each member presented their project to a judge and explained what they made, what they learned from taking the project, how they are going to use the product in a menu, and if they would change anything in future projects. The judges for the 2012 4-H food show were Sharon Behme and Kim Carney Rhodes both of Carlinville. Both judges shared that they were very impressed with the high quality food projects produced by all 4-H members and the knowledge each member shared regarding their food project.
Six trophies were awarded to the top food projects. The trophy winners were: James Ibberson of Virden, Taylor Wills of Carlinville, Megan Wolff of Shipman, Donny Thomason of Bunker Hill, Hyler Pence of Palmyra, and Allison Rosentreter of Gillespie.
Those 4-H members chosen to represent Macoupin County at the State Fair Foods Show are those members who must exhibit an outstanding project and be thoroughly knowledgeable in their project area. 4-H Members selected may choose to compete at the State Fair show on Friday, August 10. Macoupin County 4-H Members chosen for State Fair were: Megan Wolff, Hyler Pence, Taylor Wills, Donny Thomason and James Ibberson.
