Two Roads Farm Field Day

Gary McDonald, an organic farmer, educator, former president of the Illinois Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA), and the Director of Organic Resource Advisor in Springfield, IL, will be the keynote speaker at this year's Two Roads Farm Field Day, slated for Saturday Aug. 25. Two Roads farm (operated by Troy and Ron Throneburg) is the venue for the Field Day event, which provides organic and conventional farmers alike the opportunity to learn about biological proliferation, nitrogen fixation, using earthworms, cover crops, and other strategies for building and maintaining good soil.

The theme for this year's event is "A Biological and Organic Farm System: A Road to Sustainability," and participants will have the opportunity to tour the Two Roads Farm and enjoy refreshments featuring local farm products.

All field day activities will take place at Two Roads Farm located 7 miles east of Assumption, IL on the Findlay blacktop then one mile south on 1200 East Road. Follow the signs to the Two Roads Farm Field Day. The Field Day registration is $5, advance registration on or before Wednesday, Aug. 24 is required. Two Farm Field Day 2012 Schedule of Events

8:30 – 9:00 a.m. Registration

9:00 – 9:30 a.m. Gary McDonald (of Organic Resource Advisor) Keynote Presentation

McDonald will discuss biological proliferation and nitrogen fixation using earthworms and cover crops

9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Tour farm where organic farm practice is in its second year of implementation, is a 4 year crop rotation of legumes, corn, soybeans, wheat and cover crops
