Extension Host Babysitting Workshop in Hillsboro
June 10, 2016
Montgomery County 4-H hosted a babysitting workshop on Thursday, June 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Montgomery County Extension office. The workshop was open to youth sixth grade or older.
Participants heard from speakers about safety (Rick Robbins of the Montgomery County Police), child development (Montgomery County Health Department/WIC), growing your business (Will Shalter, Montgomery County Economic Development), activities for children (Elisha Hughes, 4-H Program Coordinator), as well as healthy snacks for kids (Lisa Peterson, Extension Nutrition & Wellness Educator). Participant Ayden O’Malley from Nokomis said, “I learned that when a baby as something in its throat you have to turn the baby over and pat them on the back.” She added “Also you must keep an eye on the children at all times. I feel more prepared to help watch my baby nephew now.”
