Cats, Dogs, and Small Pets at the Macoupin County 4-H Mini-Fair

Macoupin County 4-H members participated in the 4-H Mini Fair at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 6. 4-H members enrolled in dog, cat, and small pets showed off their project work and their animals during this event.
4-H members enrolled in dog projects exhibited their animals in dog care, obedience and showmanship classes. For the dog care classes, animals were judged on their coat, weight, eyes, mouth, ears, and feet. Participating 4-H members were: Alexandra (Lexie) Casey of Carlinville, Braylee Gilmore of Carlinville, Saralynn Joiner of Carlinville, and Madison and Reuben McMillen of Mt. Olive. The Best of Show Dog Care Trophy was awarded to Saralynn Joiner with her dog Miss Mattie. Lexie Casey with her dog Bauer earned Reserve-Best of Show Dog Care, Best of Show Dog Obedience, and Sr. Showmanship. Best of Show for the Puppy Class, Reserve-Best of Show Dog Obedience, and Junior Showmanship went to Braylee Gilmore. Trophy donors were John Steinmeyer, DVM and April’s Tax Service of Bunker Hill. Gina Copeland of Carlinville served as dog show judge and Angela Verticchio of Carlinville served as Show Superintendent.
Those participating in the Small Pets Show were Allie and Logan Helling of Bunker Hill, Ryan Haschemeyer of Carlinville, and Emma Kallal of Carlinville. Ryan Haschemeyer with his gerbils received the Best of Show trophy in the Small Pets competition. Logan Helling with her doves were selected as Reserve-Best of Show. Norma Mitchell of Carlinville served as the judge. The trophy was donated by Aprils’ Tax Service of Bunker Hill.
Members participating in the 4-H Cat Show were Braylee Gilmore and Shelbie Parnell of Carlinville, Fynlee and Maycee Hart of Girard, Joscelyn Wagner of Virden, Evelyn Heyen of Shipman, and Joe Robbins of Bunker Hill. Members showed off their felines to show judge Dave Robson of Springfield along with show superintendent Kim Barber of Modesto. Cats were judged on eyes, ears, coat, and weight. Best of Show Cat went to Shelbie Parnell with her Cat Colby. Reserve Best of Show Cat went to Fynlee Hart with her Cat Patches. Best of Show Kitten went to Joscelyn Wagner (Watson) and Reserve Kitten went to Evelyn Heyen (Fuzzers). Trophies were donated by Brighton Farmhands 4-H Club.
