Yes! You Can: Practice Preserving Tomatoes and Tomato Products August 16 in Hillsboro

Have more garden tomatoes than your family can handle? Canning tomatoes and tomato products is a simple food preservation method to enjoy the taste of fresh tomatoes all year round. Join University of Illinois Extension for, “Yes, You Can: Preserving Practice-tomato and tomato products.” Learn how to safely can tomatoes in this unique and hands-on workshop. The “Yes! You CAN: Preserving Practice-Tomatoes and Tomato Products” program will be held on Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 from 6:00-9:00pm at the Montgomery County Extension Office in Hillsboro.
During the program, you will have the opportunity to review the basics of water bath canning, packing tomatoes in tomato juice, water, or no added liquid, receive the latest safety guidelines, discuss working with different types of acid and why, how to troubleshoot preparation problems, receive recipes, and practice hands-on canning. You will also have a jar of food to take home and enjoy!
Registration can be done online at web.extension.illinois.edu/cjmm or by calling the Montgomery County Extension office at 217-532-3941. Register early as class size is limited. The deadline to sign up is August 13th, 2016. A small fee will cover the cost of canning supplies.
