Yes! You Can: Practice Preserving Jams & Jellies August 13 in Taylorville

Crave the sweet taste of fresh strawberry jam in the middle of Winter? Water bath canning is a simple food preservation method to enjoy the taste of summer all year round. Join University of Illinois Extension for, “Yes, You Can: Preserving Practice-Jams and Jellies.” Learn how to safely can jam in this unique and hands-on workshop. The “Yes! You CAN: Preserving Practice-Jams and Jellies” program will be held on Saturday, August 13th, 2016 from 9:00-1:00pm at the Christian County Extension Office in Taylorville.
During the program, you will have the opportunity to review the basics of water bath canning, differences between jams, jellies, preserves, marmalades, and conserves, receive the latest safety guidelines, discuss working with and without pectin, how to troubleshoot preparation problems, receive recipes, and practice hands-on canning of jams and jellies. You will also have a jar of food to take home and enjoy!
Registration can be done online at web.extension.illinois.edu/cjmm or by calling the Christian County Extension office at 217-287-7246. Register early as class size is limited. The deadline to sign up is August 10th, 2016. A small fee will cover the cost of canning supplies.
