Extension Cooks Up Fun with “Jr Chef” Culinary Camp in Raymond

RAYMOND, IL - This summer University of Illinois Extension Unit 18 in cooperation with SNAP ED, & 4-H hosted “Illinois Jr Chef” cooking camps in Nokomis.   The camp was held June 27-30 at the The Living Center, in Raymond. The free camps were open to children between the ages of 8-12 years.  The camps offered kids the opportunity to make their own nutritious meals and get excited about healthy foods like whole grains, low fat dairy and also how to add more fruits and vegetables to their meals.  Participants not only learned how to prepare delicious and nutritious meals, but also hand washing and sanitation practices, as well as food and kitchen safety.  Madi Lehnen a 4-H participant in the Teen Teacher program was on hand to teach lessons and work with participants throughout this hands-on camp. The 4-H Teen Teacher program is sponsored by the Illinonis 4-H Foundation.

The camp was coordinated by Dusty Hall, Community Worker, INEP Illinois Nutrition Education Program SNAP-ED. The program was made possible through a partnership with University of Illinois Extension, SNAP ED, and 4-H. The Living Center, of Raymond generously donated use of its facilities for the camp.
