Yes! You Can: Practice Preserving Pickles Coming to Taylorville
July 27, 2016
Dill, sweet, bread and butter, and sour are all different types of pickled cucumbers. Have a garden filled with pickling cucumbers and not sure what to do with the plentiful produce? Join University of Illinois Extension for, “Yes, You Can: Preserving Practice-Pickles.” Enjoy summer produce all year long with a timely seasonal program on home canning with an opportunity to practice preserving safely. The “Yes! You CAN: Preserving Practice-Pickles” program will be held on Saturday, August 27st, 2016 from 3:00-6:00pm at the Christian County Extension Office in Taylorville.
During the program, you will have the opportunity to review the basics of pickling and home canning, the roles of vinegar, salt, sugar, and other firming agents in the pickling process, receive the latest safety guidelines, recipes, and practice hands-on canning of pickles. You will also have a jar of food to take home and enjoy!
Registration can be done online at web.extension.illinois.edu/cjmm or by calling the Christian County Extension office at 217-287-7246. Register early as class size is limited. The deadline to sign up is August 25th, 2016. A small fee will cover the cost of canning supplies.
