URBANA, Ill. - Are you concerned about Zika virus, West Nile virus, and other mosquito problems? University of Illinois Extension is offering a free session on managing the source of these diseases—mosquitos.
The annual threat of mosquito-borne disease builds in early summer and continues into the fall, explains Chris Enroth, a U of I Extension educator. “The number of cases of West Nile has been higher, with nearly a dozen human deaths in Illinois each year. Meanwhile, the U.S. braces for the arrival of Zika virus.”
During each session, Enroth will discuss how to control and cope with northern house mosquitoes, floodwater mosquitoes, and other mosquitoes to protect yourself and your community from bites and disease.
The program will be offered at four Illinois locations:
· August 23 at 1 p.m., Henderson County Extension office, 410 E. Main, Stronghurst
· August 24 at 1 p.m., Galesburg Community Foundation, 246 E. Main, Suite #101, Galesburg
· August 24 at 4 p.m., Warren County Extension office, 1000 N. Main, Monmouth
· August 26 at 1 p.m., Macomb City Hall, 232 E. Jackson St., Macomb
The cost for each session is free. Advance registration is needed. Register online at https://web.extension.illinois.edu/hkmw/.
