4-H Host 3-D Fabrication & Entrepreneur Camp in Litchfield
August 3, 2016
July 26-28, University of Illinois Extension and Montgomery County 4-H hosted and innovative technology camp for youths called “Maker Monkeys” 3-D Fabrication and Entrepreneur Camp at Zion Lutheran School in Litchfield. The Maker Monkeys Entrepreneur Camps are for youth grades 6-9 and combined entrepreneurship and digital fabrication. Kids learned how to create a business, designing a product using Computer Aided Design (CAD), market their product and print a prototype of their idea using 3-D printers. At the end of the camp each participant was able to take home their printed product.
“3-D technology represents the future of entrepreneurship and innovation, and this camp provides local youth with a valuable opportunity to participate in the creative process from start to finish using the latest in technology.” says Elisha Hughes, Montgomery County 4-H Program Coordinator. She adds “It’s our hope that this camp inspires the next generation of inventors, engineers, and entrepreneurs.”
Participants and the name of the product they invented are as follows: Maria Hernandez, Sports, INC; Jon Volentine & Owen Turcol, Phone Standerz; and Joshua Haustein & Jack VanDoren, Cool Petz Inc.
The Maker Monkey camp was coordinated by Elisha Hughes, Montgomery County 4-H Coordinator and Will Shalter, Montgomery County Community and Economic Development Coordinator. Participants were assisted by 4-H Teens as Teachers Gabe Dudeck, and Oliver Wright. The 4-H Teens as Teachers program is sponsored by the Illinonis 4-H Foundation. Zion Lutheran School in Litchfield generously donated the use of their facilities.
