“Oh, and every seed I sow, will grow into a tree. And someday there’ll be apples there. For everyone in the world to share”- Johnny Appleseed. Dream of being the next Johnny Appleseed? Join University of Illinois Extension as Andrew Holsinger, Horticulture Educator and Lisa Peterson, Nutrition and Wellness Educator team up to provide a workshop on growing, pest management, and maintaining apple trees followed up with what to do with picked apples. Peterson will cover the nutritional benefits of apples, baking, cooking, and preserving different varieties of apples.

Participants will receive a packet of information on disease and pest management, sanitation of backyard orchards, information on growing a variety of apple trees, information on canning, freezing, and drying apples, and a recipe booklet. The course will also give individuals the chance to taste test a variety of apples and sample a unique apple recipe. Come enjoy a festive Fall afternoon talking about apples.
