News Release

Master Gardener Training Coming to Carlinville

University of Illinois Extension is accepting applications for the 2017 Master Gardener training session.  The Illinois Master Gardener program educates people about environmentally sound horticulture and gardening practices through a network of volunteers trained and managed by University of Illinois Extension faculty and staff.

The 2017 Illinois University of Illinois Extension’s Master Gardener program will be offered for 11 consecutive weeks starting on Jan. 24.  Training for Christian, Jersey, Macoupin and Montgomery County residents will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays for a webinar presentation method at the University of Illinois Extension office in Carlinville at #60 Carlinville Plaza, Carlinville, IL.

The training process starts with an individual submitting an application. Following a background screening, a candidate may be accepted into the training program.

Master Gardener volunteers work on behalf of and under the supervision of University of Illinois Extension. They volunteer in their local county and throughout the community on various projects involving parks, schools, gardening, or with other agencies.

Classroom training is $175.  All trainees will receive a copy of the Illinois Master Gardener manual.  Download an application from http://web.extension.illinois.edu/cjmm or request a form by calling 217-854-9604.  Applications are due on December 16, 2016.

Certified Master Gardeners are those who have completed their training and internship. To remain active, certified Master Gardeners must complete 30 hours of volunteer service and 10 hours of educational training yearly. These are reported online and recorded by staff members at the University of Illinois Extension.
